Texas heroes you may have missed!! Posted Wednesday, May 13, 2009 by hskost
Charles Irwin of the Class of 1950, now a retired chemical engineer in Port Neches, TX has been a student of Texas history, filling his house with books and notes. He has just published a book, "Unheralded Texas Heroes" with stories of these important but little recognized people.
Charles will be in San Antonio on June 13, 2009 for a book signing to be held at the LaFonda in Oak Hills from 4PM to 7PM. Perhaps a mini-reunion is in order to celebrate the publication of his book.
Thomas Jefferson High School Historical Preservation Society Posted Friday, November 24, 2006 by hskost
The following announcement addressed to this class has been received:
Dear Class of 1950;
I am writing you to inform you of another organization that has just formed. We are the Thomas Jefferson High School Historical Preservation Society and we would like to invite your class to become an active part of what we do. We are a nonprofit that has been set up to help preserve and conserve the many historical aspects of the school along with the memorabilia and information about its alumni. We would like to get more information about your Alumni group and possibly get some collaboration going between our organizations.
I can send you a flyer about our organization so contact me soon so we can discuss how we can preserve the wonderful history of Thomas Jefferson High. We are also a part of the 75th celebration and we are looking forward to some great things this year. Our Board of Directors is made up of alumni from the class of 1948 to 2002 and I taught at Jeff from 1974 to 2005 so we all feel very strongly about its history.
Sincerely Yours, Alma Aguirre aaguirre@gvtc.com

Looking for Beverly Jenkins Posted Thursday, September 7, 2006 by hskost
The following message came to me today. Please help David if you can.
"Do you remember a Beverly Jenkins who graduated from TJ around 1948-1950? The reason I ask is that she is my mother, but we lost contact of her when I was 5-6. Any information you could give me, I would very much appreciate.
Sincerely,
David Barnett
Katy, TX

e-mail notification Posted Monday, October 3, 2005 by hskost
E-mail notification of new posts has been turned off. The service provider is restricting automatic email programs as a spam control measure. Please check this page from time-to-time for new items.
I will have to work out a different way to send group emails. The subscription sign-up will remain so I will have a list of those who want notification if I can start doing it again. Activity is too low to justify a formal mailing list.

Web site to remain as contact point. Posted Thursday, May 5, 2005 by hskost
Following the upcoming 55-year reunion, this web site will be maintained in a semi-active state as a contact point for those seeking to hook up with class members. The domain, tjhs50.org, is registered through February 28, 2006. The site will continue beyond that date if there is interest and if the 'creek don't rise'.

Guest Book reactivated!! Posted Tuesday, January 13, 2004 by hskost
The Guest Book was shut down for new entries in August 2003 due to a sudden influx of advertising postings. Now that we are getting closer to the 55th year reunion, the book is active again. If you see some objectionable postings, have patience. I will get around to weeding them out every few days.

TJHS50-LIST to be temporarily closed Posted Wednesday, February 12, 2003 by hskost
The tjhs50-list mailing list will be shut down at the end of February 2003. It is not being used and news is slow about the 2005 Reunion. The TJHS50 web-site will continue and will carry notices as needed. You can subscribe to the news at the bottom of this page and receive email notice of postings.
As the next event gets closer, the web-site will be updated and mailings will be sent to list subscribers from time to time.
Chat room Posted Tuesday, December 10, 2002 by hskost
A chat room is once more available on the tjhs50 home page. This feature allows live chat with other class members or guests. You must sign into the chat room at the same time as other users in order to chat. Any name can be used and no password is needed. There is a link to the chat room on the home page or you can go direct to the chat room by clicking here.
Virus warning Posted Wednesday, November 13, 2002 by hskost
Several members of the Class of 1950 have received the "W32/Klez.eml" virus in email attachments with return addresses of members of this class. If you open the attachment, the virus will start and send itself to everyone in your address book. This affects Outlook, Outlook Express, and other mail programs. Because of the way it sends itself, you will get more copies as it propagates.
If you have anti-virus software installed, it may catch and kill the attachment. If it does not, you should NOT open the attachment, but, rather RIGHT click on it and save it to disk. That will allow your anti-virus program to scan and kill it. You can also delete the attachment without opening it or saving it. The attachment has a name like "I thought you would like this.." or "This is an interesting file". Since it supposedly comes from someone you know, it is easy to fall for it.
In short, beware of all attachments from anyone unless you are expecting it and know the contents. More information and anti-virus programs are available from www.macafee.conm and www.symantec.com among others.
I also received the "Brasil" virus last week. I have no idea where that one came from. Information on removal is available at the sites above. You can suspect it if high online activity continues through the modem when you are not doing anything at the time.

The TJHS50 Mailing List has moved! Posted Tuesday, May 21, 2002 by hskost
The TJHS50 Mailing List, which has been hosted by Topica has been moved. All subscribers to the old list have been transferred to the new list and should receive a "Welcome" letter with instructions for use of the list. Several of the subscribers have had mail bounced because of invalid addresses. If you are a subscriber and do not receive the welcome letter by the end of the day on May 21, 2002, it may be because your email has changed and you did not subscribe with the new address.
You may subscribe to the list by going to the (list is closed - see above) Mailing List Helper Page and using the form you will find on that page. After submitting the form, you will receive instructions on how to confirm the subscription and make it effective. It may take an hour or so to receive the confirmation.
Subscribers may use the same form to obtain a duplicate of the intro form. Always use the same address to subscribe and to send messages. If you use more than one email address, please consider subscribing from all of your addresses.

If you would like to receive email notification whenever a new item is posted, please enter your email address in the subscription form on the news summary page,. This list will be used only for news notification. It is separate from the class mailing list described on the homepage and from the list that I use for occasional mailings to class members and friends.
Postings on this list will be limited to those that seem to be of importance to class members and for news of the upcoming reunion plans. Only the latest 10 items will be displayed. You can see all of the older items by using the "View all news items" link below on this page.
